Two recreational sea anglers have been issued with out-of-court fines (Financial Administrative Penalties – FAPs) after being found in possession of 23 undersized sea bass during a patrol by KEIFCA officers on Southend Pier.
Current recreational regulations limit catches to two bass per person per day, with a minimum size of 42cm. By exceeding both the size and catch limits, this case was considered a significant breach of regulations.
KEIFCA is committed to enforcing recreational fishing regulations to protect stock sustainability and maintain compliance across the sector. Intelligence from the angling community has highlighted growing concerns about non-compliance with bass regulations, and enforcement action in this case sends a clear message that breaches will not be tolerated.
KEIFCA will continue to work closely with the angling community to support compliance with regulations and ensure the bass fishery remains sustainable for all.
